Philip Hewitson

Background
After graduating in Economics, Philip trained with Deloittes as a Chartered Accountant before joining the National Health Service in his native Sheffield. He held a succession of finance posts in South Yorkshire and London, culminating in his appointment as one of the youngest directors of finance in the NHS.

With the introduction of general management in the NHS, Philip was appointed to chief executive posts in North Yorkshire and then West Yorkshire where he was responsible for all community, hospital and GP, dental and community pharmacy services for the City of Bradford and its surrounding communities.

Since the mid 90s Philip has pursued a number of areas of interest in the health and social care fields. As a Visiting Fellow of the Nuffield Institute for Health at Leeds University he was an NHS Advisor to the Department of Health on primary care. He worked extensively with health and local authority teams and the pharmaceutical industry on organisational and community strategies and change management. More recently he has worked with a number of major international IT service and software suppliers on the management of change and organisational transformation through the implementation of modern IT systems in the public sector. His work in this field has gained widespread recognition and he has spoken on platforms and undertaken assignments in the United States, Europe, Australia and Hong Kong as well as in the UK.

Philip has extensive experience in managing and facilitating change and coaching and developing successful teams.

Coaching Experience and Qualifications
Philip has significant coaching and mentoring experience working with directors, clinicians and senior managers in the NHS, and senior managers in the not-for-profit and commercial sectors. A graduate in economics and a qualified accountant, he holds a Diploma in Senior Executive Coaching from the Oxford School of Coaching and Mentoring and received the Lancaster University Mentoring Award with merit in 2006. He is currently completing an MA in Professional Development with Lancaster University.
